Ten of the Tall Trees team have spent two weekends learning more about Forest school on the Tall Trees site.

Delivered by a qualified Forest school Trainer (Charlotte Lucas and Ed)

Working towards a level 1 qualification, we have experienced lots of outdoor natural learning activities designed with young children in mind.

These activities promote young children’s self esteem, team working, language skills, empathy, creative skills – to name but a few of the benefits.

These are just some of the activities we tried-

Building Shelters

Story Telling - using natural materials

Making Games - from natural materials

Creating Imaginary Bugs - after a bug hunting session

Popcorn and Hot Chocolate Time!

GOLD AGAIN!

Tall Trees Kindergarten has just been awarded a GOLD Food for Life Catering award, for the fifth time running.

One of only 15 nurseries in the UK to hold this coveted award, our food is officially recognised as being, nutritious, seasonal, organic, free range, local, traceable and very healthy!

Every meal is cooked from scratch daily by our in house cook, using the very best produce totally free from nasty additives and trans fats.

We are very proud to have been awarded this much coveted GOLD catering mark from the Soil Association.

‘A remarkable commitment to the health of individuals and to the environment with stong emphasis on outdoor activities and learning.  Children learning about how to grow food, experientially planting and harvesting and cooking.

The menu is a wholesome selection of freshly prepared foods achieving high scores in the freshly prepared element of the standard.  It is great to see some of the produce from the site’s gardens being used in cooking (such as the fruit included from the trees on site in the stewed fruit).’

Paediatric First Aid

Last weekend was spent on a 2 day Paediatric first aid course, for 18 of our staff, held at Tall Trees. A very informative and worthwhile exercise.

Parents do try to find a course for yourselves. The CPR and choking procedures, particularly, are life saving.

Recent visit to Tall Trees Kindergarten by Professor Sir Al Aynsley- Green

We were delighted an honoured to receive a visit from Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green this summer.

Sir Al is nationally and internationally recognised and respected as one of the most innovative authorities and inspirational experts on children’s services, child health and childhood today.

He greatly enjoyed his visit and wrote the following-

" I visited Tall Trees Kindergarten having heard of its reputation to see for myself their work at first hand. The application of their philosophy of learning through play is outstanding. There is a passionate commitment from all staff I met to look to the best interests of children by providing opportunities for inclusive, interactive and constructive play indoors and especially outdoors even in inclement weather! It was a delight to see these confident, inquisitive children immersed in their learning-related activities in an innovative, healthy environment, and the approach is clearly meeting the expectations of highly supportive parents. Tall Trees provides an unrivalled spring-board for life-long learning."

Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green, First Children's Commissioner for England, 2005-2010

Sir Al has also asked our permission to use Tall Trees as an example of the very best practice in childcare excellence, in his forthcoming lectures both here and abroad.

We are delighted to have such an eminent national and international figure singing our praises.

This is a real honour and a reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by all the staff in the Tall Trees team.

May-June Theme in Upper-Preschool

In Upper-preschool we are exploring the ‘Natural history of the World’, an outline of the story of Creation and Evolution, using the Montessori Prehistoric Timeline.

From dark Space, to enacting a ‘Big Bang!’, making the Solar System in creativity and singing the ‘Planet Song’, doing Volcano experiments ,modelling early rocky Earth ,investigating fossils and discovering how the oceans were made.

Along the Time-line we will be showing how life then evolved, going through the ages of first life, to acting out the Extinction of the Dinosaurs with meteoroids to the evolution of mammals in the first Ice Age till Humans, emerged 3 million years ago!!
